Alpha Chi Omega Takes on Mother Nature...
...and other challenges! In honor of the (hopefully quiet and peaceful) 2006 Hurricane season, Mu Tau Mu is exercising some disaster preparedness by creating this blog ahead of time to handle any possible crisis, hurricanes included, that may befall our chapters and members. We'll keep the Katrina and Rita blogs from 2005 active, as they have great resources for information and ways to help. Stay tuned to this journal for the breaking news...

Virginia Tech
The following is a statement from Alpha Chi Omega regarding the tragedy at Virginia Tech:
Alpha Chi Omega is fortunate that all members of the Epsilon Tau chapter at Virginia Tech are safe and unharmed following the tragic events of April 16. Our thoughts and well wishes are with everyone affected by this tragedy. A joint statement was issued by the North-American Interfraternity Conference, National Panh ellen ic Conference, National Association of Latino Fraternal Organizations, National Pan-H ellen ic Council, and the Association of Fraternity Advisors. The statement is posted at www.alphachiomega.org.
In response to the tragedy we at MTM have done 2 things: 1. sent a note to Epsilon Tau chapter (log in to alphachiomega.org for the address) and 2. made a contribution to the Virginia Tech Memorial Fund at http://www.vt.edu/tragedy/memorial_fund.php in honor of our Alpha Chi Omega chapter there.
Our hearts go out to the students, faculty, staff and alumni of Virginia Tech as well as their families and everyone everywhere who mourns the loss of the 32 members of the VT community.
Gamma Nu (SDSU) needs your help this week!
From Gamma Nu's Financial Advisor:
"The AXO house at San Diego State University has been under the threat of eminent domain for a number of years. We have almost completed a $700,000 renovation after the fire that devasted the house during recruitment in September and the City Council will be voting to renew eminent domain for another 12 years on May 23.
PLEASE TAKE TIME TO READ THE ATTACHMENTS AND TO SEND A LETTER TO OUR MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL BY 5/19/06 SO THAT WE CAN BE EXCLUDED FROM THE REDEVELOPMENT PROJECT.
IT IS URGENT THAT YOU DO SO AND PASS THIS ALONG TO EVERY AXO THAT YOU KNOW. IF YOU ARE A MEMBER OF YOUR ALUMNAE CHAPTER, MAKE SURE THAT IT IS SENT TO EVERYONE ON YOUR E-MAIL LIST. PASS IT ON TO OTHER SORORITY AND FRATERNITY MEMBERS ALSO BECAUSE IT COULD HAPPEN TO THEM IN THE FUTURE!!!
The Gamma Nu Chapter at SDSU is printing postcards asking their their house be excluded from the project & will we going door to door to ask their neighbors to send one to the City Council. We must help them preserve their beautiful, newly remodeled home.
Thank you! We don't want to live under the threat of losing our house for another 12 years!
Loyally, Linda"

Sad news: San Diego's City Council voted 7-1 to continue the eminent domain on the neighborhood that includes the Alpha Chi Omega house at SDSU, despite our best efforts. We are so disappointed!
