We enjoyed celebrating National Nurses Week, which ran from May 6-12, 2007, ending on Florence Nightingale (the founder of modern nursing)’s birthday. Did you know that over 40 of our Zeta Upsilon sisters have earned BSNs or graduate degrees in nursing? Have you ever considered joining the National Bone Marrow Registry? It is a fairly simple process that could save a life. From Ann Marie ZU ’83: “5 1/2 month old Trevor Kott had been diagnosed shortly after birth with a rare form of leukemia called congenital acute myeloid leukemia (AML). His family is asking for help from the community. A bone marrow transplant is little Trevor's only hope at recovery and I am urging you to go to your local blood bank to see if you might be a tissue match. This is a PAINLESS procedure- you simply take 4 swabs to the inside of your cheeks then the blood bank will forward the samples to a lab for at National Marrow Donor Center . She found a partial match last July and after spending most of last fall in the hospital is now in remission from non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. A bone marrow transplant saved her life!
