Behind the Scenes at MTM
This blog is a day-to-day update of what is going on in Mu Tau Mu.
Eventually we'll move the older journal entries from our livejournal

Things you'll hear about here include notification that new photos or other items are posted on our private website
(more about the site is here),
more detail on our
activities than you see in our month-by-month history blog, news from
Case, news from the collegiate chapter, news from Alpha Chi Omega at
large, and occasionally fun new ideas on their way to implementation.
Links to the private site will take you directly to the item mentioned.

17th Annual Break the Silence Luncheon - DVC Cleveland
On Tuesday, October 19th, the Domestic Violence Center of Cleveland hosts their 17th Annual Break the Silence Luncheon from 11:30am - 1:30pm at Windows on the River.
Mu Tau Mu is proud and very excited to be able to sponsor two Alpha Chi Omega collegians to attend the event! Get your tickets here!
Melissa Moore, author of Shattered Silence: The Untold Story of a Serial Killer's Daughter is the luncheon speaker.
From the event flyer: "Melissa G. Moore, the daughter of Keith Hunter Jesperson, a man infamously known as the Happy Face serial killer, shares her personal experiences of surviving domestic violence abuse and how she escaped the perpetual cycle of violence. As seen on Oprah and Good Morning America, Melissa provides strength and hope, encouraging women who blame themselves to retain their belief in their self worth and life purpose when facing adversity."
From amazon.com: "Throughout her life, Melissa Jesperson Moore had to hide her true identity. She had pretended that life was perfect after her parents divorced and she was suddenly uprooted from everything familiar and loving. She had to be silent, and to pretend not to be disturbed or upset by her father's actions. Those experiences prepared Melissa to hide the deepest, darkest secret of all. As she began making different choices, building a successful and loving life on her own, her heart began to fill with rays of hope, though she could never quite rid herself of the dark shadow of secrecy and shame. Then one day, her beautiful, innocent daughter looked into her eyes and said, "Mommy, everybody's got a daddy. Where's your daddy?" Shattered Silence is an astonishing, true narrative of personal and spiritual transformation. From her secret life as "the daughter of The Happy Face Serial Murderer" to a woman that bared her soul and inspired millions, Melissa leads the reader on the vulnerable, compelling, and sometimes very raw journey of what it took to shatter the silence, and claim her own life."

Virtual philanthropy project for November 10, 2009
Please join us this week as we say thank you to all our veterans and current members of the armed forces for their service to our nation. If you know an Alpha Chi Omega sister serving (or retired from) the military, today and tomorrow (Veterans' Day) is a great chance to say thank you. Many of you probably also have AXO sisters whose husbands, boyfriends, brothers, sisters, fathers, mothers or other family members are deployed, on active duty, in the reserves, and/or are veterans. These families make big sacrifices and deserve our gratitude. Take a minute to send them a note, post a message on facebook, or give them a call. It will make a difference to them!
Learn more about Alpha Chi Omega and Veterans' Day (and share your story) here http://ow.ly/B34Z and then join us in helping spread the word and our gratitude. Here's how:
On Twitter, tweet a message like this:
Thank you veterans and current members of the armed services! We appreciate you! #AXO #gratitude
OR
Learn more about being a military family from #AXO columnist Brenna Berger http://ow.ly/B3c9 #AXO #gratitude
On facebook, use one of the above tweets as your status, or post thank you messages on your friends who serve in the military or who have family members serving.
On email, share this post with friends, family members and Alpha Chi Omega sisters!
Thank you! We're looking forward to focusing all month on things we as Alpha Chis are thankful for - see a preview at http://ow.ly/B3h5
Carolyn's Silent Secret
This month we're learning about specific ways Alpha Chi Omega Foundation helps in the fight against domestic violence. Education is a powerful tool, especially in dispelling myths. Do you think domestic violence discriminates on the basis of socio-economic standing? Do you think being wealthy might protect a woman from abuse?
After you watch this video, you'll know the truth:
