This blog is a day-to-day update of what is going on in Mu Tau Mu. Eventually we'll move the older journal entries from our livejournal space but for now to read the archives (entries prior to May 19, 2005), head over to http://www.livejournal.com/users/amzmtm/.

Things you'll hear about here include notification that new photos or other items are posted on our private website (more about the site is here), more detail on our activities than you see in our month-by-month history blog, news from Case, news from the collegiate chapter, news from Alpha Chi Omega at large, and occasionally fun new ideas on their way to implementation. Links to the private site will take you directly to the item mentioned.

Tornado destroys Alpha Chi Omega house

Sigma chapter house
Thursday night, April 13th, 2006, tornadoes ripped through Iowa City, IA. Unfortunately the Alpha Chi Omega house at the University of Iowa was severely damaged during these storms.

The good news is that no one at UI was hurt and the sisters of Sigma chapter are all safe. They've moved out of the house into a vacant fraternity house, but many of them lost belongings when the east wall and much of the roof was torn off. If you would like to assist the chapter in getting back on their feet, they have set up a wish list at Target. Go to http://www.target.com choose wish list and then enter alpha chi omega sigma and then Iowa for the state. More information, reports from the scene and links to photos are posted here.

Congressional letter writing campaign - phase 2

It's time again to write your representatives in Congress asking them to support the Collegiate Housing and Infrastructure Act. A new letter with more details is posted on our private site - see here. See also the original background materials and 2 new sample letters which are posted on http://axomtm.squarespace.com/letters - be sure your letters include your affiliation (Alpha Chi Omega!) and that you send copies to Patton Boggs, the firm working with the greek organizations (pro bono, by the way!). Our contact there is Kevin O’Neill. His fax number is 202/457-6315 (please include a cover page), and his email address is koneill@pattonboggs.com. Thank you!!

This legislation, if passed, would significantly benefit our collegiate chapters and their houses by making contributions for housing renovations, improvements, etc. tax-deductible. The deadline for submitting letters is April 15, 2006.

Searching for Alpha Chi!

Thank you to Dana ZU '01 for recommending GoodSearch! You can choose Alpha Chi Omega Foundation as the group you support. Each search earns about one cent – think of how those pennies can add up!!

New Search Engine, GoodSearch.com, Raises Funds for Charity

New York, Sept. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- The brother sister team of Ken and JJ Ramberg have announced the launch of GoodSearch.com ("GoodSearch"), the Internet search engine founded on a simple concept -- Search the Internet, Make a Difference. GoodSearch enables users to help fund hundreds of thousands of charitable organizations and schools by searching the Internet as they normally would.

Inspired by the loss of their mother to cancer, Ken and JJ wanted to link the power of search engine technology with charitable giving. GoodSearch is just that platform.

Using GoodSearch is simple. You use it as you would any search engine -- GoodSearch is powered by Google to ensure the best results -- but each time you search, money is generated for your favorite charity or school. Search engines make most of their money from companies that pay every time a user clicks on links during a search. GoodSearch has developed a way to pass along money earned from your search to the causes you care about most.

"Last year, search engines generated close to $4 billion dollars in revenue from advertisers," says co-founder Ken Ramberg, the founder of JOBTRAK Corporation, which he then sold to Monster.com. Ramberg continues, "Think about what your favorite cause could do with even a fraction of that money!"

JJ, Ken's sister and GoodSearch co-founder, a television reporter and a Stanford MBA, adds, "The amount of money charities and schools can receive is limitless. The more you search the more money the organization you support will collect. Multiply that by millions of users and we can really help a lot of causes in need of funds."

The launch of GoodSearch is especially timely since it will not only help fund organizations focused on Hurricane Katrina, but it is invaluable to the hundreds of thousands of smaller causes that often see shortages in contributions during these difficult times.

So ... * Find a cure * Support your school * Provide disaster relief * Protect our environment Search and Support today ... GoodSearch!
